In tandem; Green and (not or) Blue in Urban Space

As the understanding of climate change we cannot hinder persuasively, the decision to step ahead of dealing with it is inevitable. Protecting and preserving the built environment as the aim of combating climate change sometimes raising the illogical acts for construction business. Immensely hardscape physical design(s) is done to show the built up area is being taken care. Giant vertical garden is tacked to the high rise building envelope to have visual spoiling of being green.

Obviously green movement is not owned by high rise buildings only with its substantial campaign of energy efficiency, even though it is the biggest sinner for ecological footprints statistically, but facing major urban areas matters as a living place for eq. flooding problem. In one condition of Jakarta where climate change is not the main subject that taking roles of an acute flooding issue(s) is the combination of increasing population living in urban areas and the needs of providing housing settlements.(New) policies and decisions from stake holders are desired to make a change. In the other hand,to solve the problem in indoor-scale increasing numbers of developers and business in property try to offer flood-free risk housing/residential/townships in a new area. It is (sometimes) success for micro scale urban area yet not less frequent problems coming in the future. Different approach is required, still. It is being questioning(indecades) either town planners, architects and engineers already tighten the line to develop a charming solution(s).

Considering government regulation PP Menteri PU No. 05/PRT/M/2008 about <PedomanPenyediaanPemanfaatanRuang Terbuka Hijau di KawasanPerkotaan>is defined that green open space is a line or pocket system naturally or designed with a total area minimum thirty percent from a total area in a city. Achievement of having thirty-percent total of green open space only would not work optimally to tackle flooding without a notion of existing and designed blue system in it. Without fuss; watershed, fluctuations, topography, water bodies, and other(s) water features needs to be taken care as a whole system without being walled or gated. Recognizing that rainfall not always being channeled (by pipes) properly from buildings and roads, maybe this is a moment to accept and actively managing blue-green corridors, strategically intertwined. Here the choice of location for a housing/residential/township as a settlement is developed with a veracity of being flood-free risk is tested and proved.

Managing flood from above ground is reliable for micro scale urban area with green open space and controlled water bodies. Thus creating numerous pockets of green space can be used for storing temporarily floodwater while we are working parallel to improve the environmental benefits out of it.Planting appropriate species of tree for tree-lines as shading is a traditional way of taking care pedestrians also keep and striving for the river always flows is still grant as an area planning. Micro climate gets little attention and affordable linkage and networks in an area physically under surveillance.
